SUNCATCHERS
Ceiling by Dale Chihuly
Like stained glass,
aging women--
strong to the touch,
tempered by fire,
poetry still
in a certain light.
Yet there is fear
of approaching night,
the muting of colors,
that day we will shatter
in a thousand shards...
At eighty my mother said
life is not just about holding on
rather, finding joy
in what remains--
suncatchers in a child's room,
all those dazzling pieces of glass
dancing with the light.

BBRRRRRR
Two below zero this morning, windchill 20 below. Winter is getting long. Woke up with the bug that everyone around here has, so I made a pot of chicken soup which probably has absolutely no medicinal value, but smells delicious. So I'm hunkering down on the couch under the green wool blanket and watching the cardinals and housefinches, all in their fancy nuptial plumage. They know Spring is coming, and they're gettin' ready for their brides. ..
