A dark wind is howling tonight

coming from around the world

from lands of fire and ice

from wild and blazing places

the wind now sweeping

my words from the page

freezing my fingers at the keys

and I'm frightened

that words are no longer enough

thinking useless

old creeds I once believed

gone to ash and in the end

maybe all that matters is this:

one sparrow, sheltered

in a pine tree's fragile arms.
