POULTRY BUSINESS

Yes, I know these are turkeys, but they are poultry, though this is a chicken poem. I don't think they'll mind.
POULTRY BUSINESS
One lovely morning
as I was dining on Eggs Benedict,
a friend stopped by my table to ask
how's the poetry business?
I heard how's the poultry business?
After wondering if a hearing aid
might be in my future,
I got to thinking about this and decided
chickens might actually be better.
The pay is more.
You never need an alarm to wake you.
You can always eat your mistakes.
Rhode Island Reds are quite lovely
to look at, and chickens make you laugh.
Poetry, on the other hand,
pays next to nothing,
keeps you up all night,
and poets hate to eat their words.
Rarely do poems make you laugh,
mostly you curse and cry--oh why,
oh me oh my.
Sometimes I think I'll try
to change this state of affairs,
but most of the time, not
and that's because I am, you see
too chicken.

PEACE & HARMONY

Digitalized Ink Painting by S. Auberle

I'm trying to learn the art of Chinese ink painting--both characters and the actual paintings. Not easy. This is the character for "peace."

"Harmony" tonight, looking out the window at sunset to see the almost full moon and the setting sun in the sky at the same time.

peace and harmony. ..
some kind of magic...

NOURISHING

WHAT NOURISHES ME
the whisper
of your
breath
in the
night
that
old
moon
circling
the sky
cranes
calling
on their
journey
northward...
~ mimi
p.s. yes, these are real cranes, though they look fake. They're in front of a lovely painted wall in their enclosure.

TWO WAYS

One is as though
nothing is a miracle.
The other is as though
everything is a miracle."

SPRING, SPRANG, SPRUNG

Photos by S. Auberle
Spring in the city...street musicians are out, prom dresses in boutique windows, the light, oh the light. A trip to the city for a change of pace. Energy, fantastic food, people everywhere, some in shorts and flipflops, some still in down coats and boots, most with smiles on their faces. Life is good...

TIME

Painting by Picasso - Milwaukee Museum of Art
it pecks at me
this morning
Time, that urgent bird
flying swiftly
always beyond our reach
impossible to capture
slow down
or save...
now here, beating
on my screen at dawn
feathers ripping
falling, furious
at my wasting
even a single hour
in sleep

LAST WINTER POEM

I walk these winter woods tonight
cold rushing through me
like a river of stars
filling me so with grace
I can hardly breathe...
~ mimi
this poem first published a few years ago in "Hummingbird"
off the blogwaves for a week...spring will have arrived when I return...
