DAMAGED GOODS

"There are no damaged goods
when everyone is damaged goods."

- Jim Harrison
"Returning to Earth"

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time.

"...a tender, profound and magnificent novel about life, death and finding redemption in sometimes unlikely places."

"...a deeply moving story of origins and endings and how to honor what we have lost."

On the road for another week, then back to home. For now, unlike earlier entries of images and no words, now it will be words and no images, since I'm without access to my photo files.

Don't give up on me yet.

A QUICK NOTE

Just a quick note to say that I've been off the blogwaves, and will be for another week or so, because of a funeral. Will return soon.

BIKING TO EPHRAIM

Two peals of thunder
this afternoon, unexpected.
On the road to Ephraim
the land smells of grass,
coming rain, overturned earth,
cows and lilies-of-the-valley.
An old woman gathers lilacs
beside a stone fence.
There are gulls fussing
in furrowed rows
and in the purple clouds,
one crow--who scolds
as I wheel beneath him.
Rumi says:
this is not a day for asking questions...
this day is a lover, bread and gentleness
more manifest than saying can say...

Again
in that
wordless place...
